Dr. Steven Noel is a Principal Cybersecurity Scientist in MITRE’s Cyber Solutions Innovation Center. For 20+ years, he has led multi-disciplinary teams conducting advanced research in cybersecurity. Areas of particular focus include cyber situational understanding, optimal network hardening, and mission impact analysis. He led the development of the DeCypher, CyGraph, and Cauldron technologies for AI/ML and graph-based cybersecurity resiliency analysis and situational understanding. These technologies have been transitioned to numerous government organizations and commercial partners, and they form the basis of two startup companies. Dr. Noel has also served as Associate Director of the Center for Secure Information Systems at George Mason University (2001-2013) and Physicist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (1990-1998). He has 80+ publications, with 4,800+ citations (h-index 33), and holds 10 patents (plus 5 pending). He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2001.
